New Addition to My Family

Image
Meet Oreo! Our new Boston Terrier puppy! He is only 5 months old. We have had him for a month almost, and I am completely in love! He is quite the character and finds new ways to make me laugh every single day. You will be seeing many more pictures of him, trust me.

Happy belated Valentines Day!

Geeze, I feel like I haven't posted in forever! I have been consumed with figuring out my MacBook. I have never owned a Mac before, everything is all new to me but I am learning! I still switch back to my old PC when I get stuck on something though. :) Anyways I thought I would share a project I did for my husband for Valentines Day. I got a little creative and combined it with something that's memorable for us. I made a tree bark-like painting, but with our initials carved into it. We carve our initials in things when we go traveling. So I decided to make one for our home instead of carving into the walls here! haha Here is a closer picture so you can see the details. Okay, so for this I used: canvas acrylic paints (browns, a tiny bit of yellow, and little bit of metallic brown) gel medium for texture (I mixed it in with some of the paint) And last but not least MY FINGER (for the initials and heart) It really didn't take too long to paint, I felt like I had to rus...

Boxing Day

Well with the Holidays over with, I hope everyone has a happy New Year! Remember to make your 'resolutions' list. I have already started on mine. Now lets see if I can keep up with it all year, instead of the first 3 weeks. haha :)

Happy Holidays!!!!!

This year will be the first year that my husband and I have had a real Christmas tree! We have lived together for a year and I never thought about decorating for the holidays until Thanksgiving hit. Our apartment is pretty small with limited storage and I really didn't want to go all out and buy all kinds of decorations. So this year I made the majority of them! I did go out and buy some cheap plastic ornaments for the tree though. (you will probably see them in the pics below) I thought I would share a couple of home-made ornaments I created. I made these using the same technique...just like making a pom-pom. They remind me of snowballs. I made these with clay. My husband was the inspiration for these, he actually came up with the idea and made the first one! They are real peppers from our garden. Some were green but all of them are red/turning red now. Pretty unique huh? This is a brooch from a ball dress. I broke it on accident at the USMC ball and thought ...

Well since it has been chilly here in sunny San Diego I have started getting into my crochet mood. I recently got one of those Keurig coffee makers and I LOVE it!! Every time I make a cup my hands always get to hot on my mugs. :( I saw a picture on  Pinterest  of a mug cozy and decided I HAD to try it! So...BAM! This is what I came up with. Not to shabby for my first one huh?  I love it to much I started making them for gifts for some fellow coffee lovers I know. I'm sure they will love them just as much as I do. (This one I made has actually fit all the mugs I have so far!!)

House Finch (Finchie)

Image
Ok so since my husband and I have moved we noticed a lot of birds in the area where we live. We started feeding them, and I never knew I would end up bird watching out of my patio door! All kinds of breeds of birds have shown up from humming birds to hawks.  Then I started noticing this bird hanging around (and his whole flock..lol). They were so bright and orange, and I have never seen such a small orange bird. My husband and I just started calling all of them "finchies" not knowing what kind of bird they actually were. I finally Googled it and found out they actually were House Finches!  But anyway, they are so cute and I have fell in love with them so I decided to paint one, and I LOVE it! I will sell this, but not anytime soon. It is painted with oils so I need to give it a good while to dry, and plus I would like to admire it a bit longer. hehe.
